OGHS VOCAL ARTS SYLLABUS HIGHLIGHTS

- Spring 2024 Course Offerings:
- 1st Block: Bella Voce (Vocal Music Intermediate & Proficient)
- 2nd Block: Concert Choir (Vocal Music Beginning & Intermediate)
- 3rd Block: OG Singers (Vocal Music Intermediate & Proficient)
- Honors credit is available for students who have completed VM Beginning and Intermediate. Mrs. Peterson will notify eligible students at the beginning of the semester.
- Course curriculum is guided by the National Standards for Music Education and the NC Standard Course of Study.
- Students are expected to participate in all elements of class instruction and activities,
- All course materials/supplies are provided. Music issued to students is property of the OGHS Vocal Arts Program. Students will be charged for replacing any damaged or lost music.
- During instruction, cell phones should NOT be in the rehearsal “space” unless instructed.
- Attendance will be taken per DCS policies. Tardies will be marked following OGHS guidelines.
- There is a dress code for performances outlined in the Apparel handout.
- Per DCS policies, grading will be calculated on a 10-point scale using the following category percentages:
- 60% Performances, Tests & Projects (Major)
- We will present 2 major concerts this semester:
- Tuesday, October 24 @ 7pm & Monday, December 18 @ 7pm
- Efforts are made to avoid athletic events as much as possible.
- Performances are required.
- 40% Assignments, Quizzes & Artistic Work Habits (Minor)
- Homework is rare.
- Students are expected to turn in work by the given due date.
- Late work will be lowered by 10 points a day for a maximum of 50 points deducted.
- Students who are absent from class will be provided with any work missed during their absence upon their return.
- Any student absences related to quarantine will be provided instructions from Mrs. Peterson regarding make-up work.
- Students who are in class but are unable to sing will be expected to complete a Silent Rehearsal assignment that day.
- All grades will be updated in PowerSchool weekly, usually on Mondays for the week prior. PowerSchool is the best source for the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding grades.
- Fundraisers are an important part of providing resources and materials for the program. While they are kept at a minimum, I hope everyone will participate as able.
