Greetings and salutations!
I will be teaching both English I (9th) and English IV (12th). This is my sixth year at Oak Grove, twenty-eighth overall in the English classroom.
English I is a survey course of several genres spanning hundreds of years and many cultures. Texts will include various short stories, nonfiction readings, poetry, the novel Animal Farm, the epic The Odyssey, and Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. We will also incorporate StudySync vocabulary and use the site Grammarflip for continual practice.
English IV focuses on British literature. Texts covered will include Beowulf, The Canterbury Tales, Macbeth, Frankenstein, and 1984, along with poetry and nonfiction readings. We will incorporate StudySync vocabulary and use the site Grammarflip for continual practice.
Outside of class I am married to my wonderful wife of twenty-three years, Faith. We have five children: John Michael (21), Reagan (20), Asher (17), Levi (14), and Caleb (12). I am involved in coaching the youngest three in basketball and baseball, having coached at the high school level for over thirty years. Additionally, I serve as Assistant Pastor of Administration at North Pointe Church in High Point, where I am involved in campus care, department leadership, preaching, teaching - and I even sing at times!
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me at the email provided above. The syllabus for each class, with overview, is provided below.
