I was born in Quito, Ecuador, the capital of a small country in South America.  I came to this country when I was six years old.  I lived in Chicago for two years, this is where I learned how to speak English.  My next move was to New Jersey where I lived there for eighteen years.  My last move was to North Carolina in 2005.  I’ve been married for twenty-seven years.  I have a senior at North Carolina State University and a sophomore at the University of Chapel Hill.

I graduated from Rutgers University in 2000 with a Bachelors of Arts in Spanish and two minors, History and Latin American Studies. I started my career in New Jersey where I taught Spanish for five years at the middle school level.  I transitioned to high school when I moved to North Carolina.  This is my 22nd year as an educator and I love it!!

I use the communicative approach to create context through themes, pictures, and stories. I include other methods such as TPR (Total Physical Response), singing, and dancing as well.  I am a strong believer that learning can be fun and meaningful.  My hope is to inspire students to develop a growth mindset, be kind global citizens, and cultivate optimism.  I am excited to be working with your student!

Yours truly,

Profe Ponce
